Happy Chair
Designer:Kivi Sotamaa & Tuuli Sotamaa

The Happy Chair embraces its occupant and creates a warm, comfortable nest. It is designed to make people laugh and play. The large size and the dynamic form were conceived to spark the imagination and inspire creative misuse. In a baroque spirit the muscular form creates a sensation of upward movement, which defies gravity.

The Happy Chair can be seen at several prominent private homes and public buildings in Helsinki and Stockholm: The Fazer Visitor Centre, Aalto University headquarters and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences IVA.

The studio is founded by brother and sister Kivi Sotamaa & Tuuli Sotamaa and it is based in Helsinki, Finland.

We design human experiences. We founded Ateljé Sotamaa to explore and architect beauty, strategy and human experience in the digital age. We use the newest tools, concepts and materials to design and build life-changing experiences in the material world. Our mission is to delight. Our vision is a world less boring with more meaning.

Ateljé Sotamaa exists in a web of connections over which ideas and expertise are exchanged and spread, and from which game-changing innovation emerges. Based out of studio in Helsinki we create buildings, spaces, objects, communication, infrastructure and artworks that change the way people think, feel and behave.

We believe that design must appeal to our emotions, and seduce us into exploring new ways of being in the world. We combine experiential design with criticality and responsibility.
